Getting started
- Start your first decisionWrite the decision in one sentence, say what it optimizes for, confirm its type, and Midfire takes you to its record.
- Choose between everyday and big betThe type sets how much process a decision gets, from two questions about cost and reversibility that you can always change before conditions exist.
- How the free trial worksYour account's first workspace gets free decisions with no card and no time limit, and everything you do yourself keeps working after they are used.
- Give a decision its areaEvery decision has one area, such as Pricing or People and organization, suggested when you start it and changed in one click.
Your decision
- Frame the decisionSay what the decision is for and what it must respect, so the conditions are drafted for the question you actually face.
- Name the paths you are choosing betweenList the real options, keep the status quo as the baseline, and know when the set of paths can still change.
- Work with the conditionsGenerate what must be true and what must not fail for every path, then read where the decision is exposed.
- Make the call on a conditionRecord whether a condition is met, a risk you accept, or not applicable, with the reason on the record.
- Check a document against a conditionBring a contract, a report or a sheet you already have, and keep the passage that speaks to the condition as a receipt.
- Run the premortemImagine the plan has already failed, name why, and turn the causes worth guarding against into conditions.
- Test your path in the hearingBefore a big bet is committed, the hearing argues the strongest case against the path you lean toward, so you can answer it or decide knowingly.
- Commit to a path and lock the decisionSay what success looks like, set the predictions and tripwires you will return to, choose the path, then lock the decision.
- Plan the rollout and record changes after the lockOn a big bet, say who the decision lands on and how it reaches them, then amend the plan with a reason if it changes after the lock.
- Review a decision you madeCome back on the review dates, compare your predictions with what happened, check your tripwires, and keep watching or resolve the decision.
- See where a decision standsThe status view says where the decision is, what is missing and what to do next, and lets you catch up on what changed since you last looked.
- Change a decision's settingsDecision settings holds the decision's folder, whether contributors see each other's names, who can open it, and the danger zone.
Working together
- Ask people for input on a decisionShare a decision in progress, choose what each person can do, and ask for their view on the conditions and the premortem.
- Answer when you are asked for your viewImagine the plan failed, then give one answer per condition, in your own words and before you see anyone else's.
- See who is involved in a decisionThe People section lists who is on a decision, what each was asked and has given, coverage by condition, and once committed, its brief.
- Hand a decision to another decision makerWhoever creates a decision makes the call by default; hand it over from People to someone who can edit it.
- Walk the conditions in a meetingThe meeting view puts one path's conditions on a shared screen, one at a time, with who has answered and never what they said.
