Plan the rollout and record changes after the lock

In shortOn a big bet, say who the decision lands on and how it reaches them, then amend the plan with a reason if it changes after the lock.

FrameAlternativesConditionsPremortemHearingCommitmentExecutionReviewDashed: big bet only

A decision that nobody carries out has changed nothing. The Execution section of a plans how the call turns into action.

Answer the four parts

Each part is optional and saves on its own. On a draft, click an answer to edit it; leaving the field saves it.

  • Who it lands on names the people whose work changes, one per line.
  • How it reaches them is one of three ways. Participation, where those affected help shape the how. Persuasion, where the case is made person by person. Or edict, where it is announced and expected to stick.
  • Who announces it says who tells whom, and when.
  • How it's explained says what people are told about why, in a sentence or two.

If the decision starts with a smaller first step, that step appears here too, with the date you will look again.

Lock the decision here

On a big bet, the lock sits under this section. See Commit to a path and lock the decision.

Change the plan after the lock

Plans move once the work starts, and the record can follow them honestly.

  • Open the part that changed and edit it.
  • Say why the plan changed, in one line. The change is saved only with its reason.
  • Every change appears under Changes since the lock, with its date, who made it and what it replaced.

The decision itself stays as you locked it. What changes is the plan for carrying it out, and its history stays readable.
