FrameAlternativesConditionsPremortemHearingCommitmentExecutionReviewDashed: big bet only
The Alternatives section lists the paths in front of you. One of them is the status quo: what happens if nothing is decided. Every other path is compared against it, and each path gets its own when they are generated.
Where the paths come from
- An everyday decision starts with two paths: the action your statement names, and the status quo.
- A starts with a wider set that Midfire drafts while framing the decision.
- Either way, the paths are yours to change before the conditions are generated.
Change the paths
The section asks one question: are these the paths worth testing? If they are, carry on with Generate conditions. To change them:
- Click a path's name to rename it, so it says plainly what you would do. Enter or a click away saves it, Esc puts the name back.
- Add a path with + Add a path, the last row of the list. A third option often turns a yes-or-no into a real choice.
- Remove a path you added with its × button.
- To change what the baseline says, rename the status quo. It stays in the list, since every path is compared against it.
Every path needs a name. Each change saves on its own.
Once the conditions exist
The conditions are generated for this exact set of paths, so the set is fixed from then on:
- The paths can no longer be edited, names included: a reworded path can mean something else, and the conditions drafted for it would not follow.
- To change the paths, use Start the conditions again in the Conditions section. It removes the conditions and the calls made on them, keeps the answers people gave, and lets you change the paths and generate again.
What the markers mean
- Chosen marks the path the decision committed to.
- Hearing marks the path the hearing argued against, on a big bet.
After the decision is committed, the paths stay as they were when the call was made.
